Konnichiwa ~ yurikachan desu!

Today is Ethan's 2nd vaccination (4 shots) and since my husband is with us, I had the Chance to record it. We just had it in a local pediatrician.

The vaccination here in Japan is divided in to two categories; routine vaccination (teiki yobou settsu) and voluntary vaccination (nini yobou settsu).

The routine vaccination which is compose of BCG, PCV(Pneumococcal Conjugate vaccine), DTP-IPV(Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis and injectable polio)*, MR(Measles and Rubella), Japanese Encephalitis, Chickenpox, Hib, HPV, hepatitis B are all free of charge provided that you have the coupons given by your municipal health office.

These coupons will correspond to the vaccination schedule of Japan which is different from my home country. Example is the BCG which is administered right after birth but here in Japan it will be given when your baby is around 6 months old.

Voluntary vaccination such as   Influenza, Rotavirus etc will be all paid straight from your pocket which will probably cost around ¥16,000. If you are going in a local clinic, You need to ask your pediatrician on whether they offer these shots or not because some of them doesn't have it.

For your baby's routine vaccination you need to have an appointment with your local pediatrician.
